INTRODUCTION TO MARKETING (BL1MA004)

To introduce the students to typical "marketing attitude" characteristics:
- To avoid marketing short-sightedness ("to see beyond the product or services"),
- To remain close to one's customers, both intellectually and physically,
- To make decisions based on facts and not only on opinions,
- To have the ability to analyze critically, to summarize and to think forward,
- To constantly keep a watch on one's competition (direct or substitutes!),
- To dare while still measuring the risks,
- To be consistent.

The aim of this course is to allow students to discover and/or revise the subject of marketing, it uses a combination of theory and practice. It focuses particularly on the following:
- a state of mind ("an awareness of the environment")
- an organization ("structures, functions, positions, objectives,...")
- a set of techniques ("market research, panels,...")
This first year gives priority to "the marketing approach" from an operational viewpoint.


INTERNATIONAL TRADE 1 (BL1AI013)

Students should be able to understand the notion of globalisation and study its consequences on the way companies operate, to be able to assess the firm's capacity to become international, and to be aware of, and take on board, the cultural differences and their influence on international transactions.

To comprehend the international dimension of a company in a globalised economic environment. To understand the notion of globalisation and its consequences for companies. The European Union as an example of regional economy, the organization of the european institutions.The intercultural aspect of internationalization and the company strength and weakness analysis


GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF LAW (BL1DR002)

- To introduce the basic notions necessary to understand the different subjects present in company law.
- To present the methodology for different legal exercises : judgment slips and practical cases.
- To introduce students to legal documentation.

Given the influence of law on economic activity, it is imperative to know certain basic legal notions in order to achieve an overall understanding of the company. This course aims at presenting the basic notions which are indispensable for an understanding of the different subjects of company law. To do this, two steps are necessary: a general introduction to law and a presentation of contract law.


INTRODUCTION TO FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT (BL1CP001)

At the end of this module, the learner will be able to:
-read and understand a balance sheet, financial results and a financial plan.
-understand the consequences of financial decision-making on a financial situation and on the profitability of an operation.
-understand the essential information given in press items dealing with financial matters.

Through a forward looking, pragmatic and colorful approach, this module aims :
- to demystify finance and to have a broad look at financial management.
- to understand the principal generic terms used.
- to discover fundamental financial mechanisms.


MANAGEMENT MATHEMATICS 2 (BL1MQ002)

_.To introduce the mathematical tools necessary to understand the models used in economics and management.
To master the basic notions indispensable for efficient dialogue with experts in case of complex problems.
To show the importance of the notions studied through examples and to make simple deductions

FOREIGN LANGUAGE : BM1 (bL1LV006)

The aims of second language teaching (LV2) in BM are:
- consolidate, broaden, increase and diversify the basic linguistic and communication skills (assessment of basic skills and refreshment courses). To be able to communicate with native speakers in a professional or informal context.
- to strengthen cultural and civilizational aptitude and skills in order for the students to understand the specificities of the chosen foreign countries (intercultural approach).

Learning language success is mainly based on three crucial factors: the attitude of the learner (autonomy), the time spent with the language (immersion) and the ability to notice what is happening in the language (noticing). To reach this goal, we offer blended learning solutions to our students. It involves classroom-based courses (business-related contents), mobile learning (handheld device use) and e-learning (online resources).


ENGLISH FOR BM1 (BL1LV010)

- To develop language learning skills over a two-year period, starting with a systematic revision of basic grammatical rules and structures
- To develop oral and written skills so that the learner progressively acquires confidence in communication
- To tackle basic themes concerning the business world

An initial TOEIC test assesses student levels for streaming into relatively homogeneous groups. Basic business themes are studied (company structure, the world of work, money in the first semester, business acumen and success and the globalization of business in the second semester). Grammar essentials (with a clear orientation towards verb tenses) are systematically analyzed and tested throughout the year. Methodology for making oral presentations is provided in the fist semester and skills in written synthesis are developed in the second semester. Running through both semesters is the 'Fil rouge', a weekly oral presentation (individual in the first semester, in teams of two in the second) accompanied by a concise written summary. Oral and written skills are thus both targeted.


FRENCH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE (BL1LV033)

This module is designed for foreign students who want to learn and/or improve their skills in French.

The objectives are:

To understand simple information in French (reading and listening skills)
To be able to interact in French (writing and speaking skills)
Know some aspects of french culture
reach B1 level


PREPARATION FOR LINGUISTIC CERTIFICATION : BUSINESS SPANISH CERTIFICATE (BL1LV009)

- Obtaining a mastery of the fundamentals of Spanish business vocabulary
- Being operational in a multicultural world

In this module students who have an intermediate to advanced level of Spanish will have the opportunity to acquire an in depth knowledge of the Spanish economic, trade and corporate world.
This module is especially recommended to all students who wish to add to their linguistic training the possibility to enter a Hispanic company or a company with link to the Spanish speaking world.
The certification is offered during 2 sessions :
Candidates have a three hour time frame to answer the five following exercises :
- Summarize a Spanish press article into French (20 points)
- Translate a business letter into Spanish (20 points)
- Answer to a business letter (20 points)
- Translate into Spanish a series of 10 sentences dealing with business or economic issues (20 points)
- Answer in Spanish to a series of questions dealing with business, the economy, etc. (20 points)

Every grade under a quarter of the points awarded to each exercise is considered eliminatory.


PREPARATION FOR LINGUISTIC CERTIFICATION : THE WIDAF (GERMAN) (BL1LV015)

This course is a preparation to the Widaf, one of the third party certifications offered by the school. The achievement of a certification is one of the preconditions for the students to be awarded their ESC Bretagne Brest diploma.

The Widaf is offered by the Franco German Chamber of Commerce.
Preparation takes place within ESC.


LANGUAGE COACHING (LV2) (BL1LV013)

- To become more autonomous in your second language
- To improve your basic language skills

This language coaching course is offered to all ESC students.
It offers a customized language approach.


ACCOUNTING (BL1CP004)

-Structure basic knowledge in the context of general management training :
-Objectives and conceptual framework of accounting.
-Analysis of the company's operations and organization of the accounting information system.
-Process of producing annual financial statements.
-Interpreting financial statements.
-Development of rigorous analytical skills in both reasoning and methodology.
-Awareness of the issues of financial information.

This basic course is an introduction to the accounting function and financial organization of companies. Its based on :
-Understanding basic accounting summaries and registration procedures.
-The ability to produce annual financial statements.
-Learning the main terms of accounting regulations : IAS/IFRS (assimilation of the key provisions of the IAS/IFRS).


COMPUTER SCIENCE (BL1IN000)

To enable the learner to become proficient in the use of the office automation applications necessary for studies in higher education, and in order to easily integrate a company. At the end of this module, students should be able to analyze the problems arising within a company, and to select and develop the most appropriate applications.

The methods used (see operating methods) take into account the students' level and cultural differences and allows them to progress at their own speed.

To learn and become skilled in the use of different computer tools :

To rebuild stronger foundations in English

Systematic revision of basic English structures through a progressive in-depth focus of verb uses and tenses.


ECONOMICS : MARKETS AND BEHAVIORS (BL1EC005)

The aims of this lecture are:
- to know the basic principles of economic analysis.
- to understand the mechanisms of demand, supply and their interaction on markets.
- to understand the motivations of the behavior of economic actors (consumers and producers).
- to make the link between concepts and economic life and to enable the reading and the understanding of economic phenomena.

After reminding the basic principles of microeconomic analysis, we examine the economic mechanisms underlying workings of goods and services markets.

The first element is the understanding of the market equilibrium through supply and demand and of elements which can modify it, including government intervention.

In a second step, the components of the market are discussed in detail through the consumers' behavior and the producers' behavior. Then, the market itself is detailed in its different forms depending on its degree of perfection and mechanisms created by an imperfect (firms' strategies). Last, we present applied microeconomics.

The whole lecture is based on theoretical elements illustrated by examples, classroom experiments, applications, and gives rise to exercises.


SALES AND SELLING (BL2MA013)

1. to understand the concepts of product, price and promotion and their roles in the marketing-mix of a product/service.
2. to develop the ability to understand operational marketing.
3. to gain practical understanding of product and price management .
4. to gain experience in the field of marketing communication.
5. to learn bench mark competition.
6. to be able to collect information, analyze, criticise, summarize, present and anticipate.

The course focuses on the 4Ps: product, price, place and promotion. The concepts are introduced and their roles in marketing-mix explained. A group project enables the students to implement the concepts and gain a practical understanding of their role within a global marketing strategy.


NATIONAL ECONOMY, MONEY AND ECONOMICS (BL1EC000)

The aims of this lecture are:
- To understand the major issues of macroeconomic analysis.
- To understand various macroeconomic theories.
- To know the ins and outs of fiscal and monetary phenomena.
- To understand the functioning of the European Monetary System.
- To address these mechanisms within the framework of the current economic scene.

After defining and introducing the basic elements of the economics, the lecture consists in three parts which introduce the key elements of the understanding of macroeconomic analysis.

The first part of the course covers the definition of the national economy and its challenges. In this context, the issues are addressed in the macroeconomy. The description of the economic circuit continues with a definition and uses of measures of gross domestic product (GDP), a place is also made to other measures of wealth of nations. Then, various macroeconomic issues are addressed in a descriptive and analytical (unemployment, demand and aggregate supply, inflation, balance of payments, exchange rates, etc.). Finally, addressing the question of money through its definition and description of the financial systems.

The second part of the course focuses on the various macroeconomic theories which permit to read economic events and their interactions. Two standards theories are discussed: the classical approach and the Keynesian approach. We will also report on the recent developments in macroeconomic theory.

The third part of the course addresses fiscal and monetary policies, through these different theories and analytical tools. The objectives and methods used in these policies are described and illustrated. Finally, these approaches allow the description of the European monetary system, and European fiscal and monetary policy.

The whole lecture is based on theoretical illustrated by examples, applications and gives rise to exercises.


PROFESSIONAL PROJECT INVESTIGATION (BL1DP015)

. To put in motion an investigation and exploration dynamics of the different careers and economic sectors
. To acquire an exploration or choice assistance methodology

This course is a first step to help students build their professional project. The general purpose for the students is to know the different jobs and economic sectors related to their diploma. Students learn how to explore the various sources of information on jobs and career opportunities. Students must in the end become self-sufficient and set up their personal "Trade and careers' file".


HOW TO SUCCEED IN ONE'S INTERNSHIP AND JOB RESEARCH (BL1DP016)

Through this course, students learn the basics in building a relevant professional offer . The module puts forward a research strategy in accordance with one's professional project. Students learn how to use the main current tools, from the standard rsum to the e-cv, professional blog, and telephone. Students are also given the keys to understand the recruiting process, and particularly the position and tools used by the recruiter.

- Learn the methodology for debating, question general knowledge, current affairs themes.
- Organize, construct and animate an oral presentation

- Learn to digest and restitute : studies of some TAO lectures

The main objective of this course is, on the one hand to provide students with a methodology of "dissertation"(essay writing), oral presentation and debating techniques through the use of different writing workshops , and on the other hand to develop their general knowledge of current events and of those of the profesional world.


COMMUNICATION AT SCHOOL (BL1DP023)

This sequence is designed to bring out speech and thought of everyone on his relationship with the school since September, from the perspective of communication: "the other, me, the school institution, how does one communicate ? ... "
The idea is to ask the question: how I mean? How can I be heard in school? Through this sequence of exercises proposed to bring out the attitudes of each other, to formulate proposals which engage with change.
Students will be successively brought to reflect on their experiences at school, work in teams to present their work during group, to be able to play the school officials to reach a written proposal on whom to engage.
