Detailed program : ESC Master In Management (MIM)


LOGISTICS MANAGEMENT (BMGLO006)

Modeling logistics flows both at the organizational and the inter-organizational levels is an essential aspect of this module. At the end of this course, students should be able to :
Use generic techniques (planning, inventory management)
Conceptualize a logistics chain
Understand logistics management's stakes and its influence upon the global performance of the firm
Make a global logistics diagnosis
Understand the complexity of logistics flows
Be aware of the global impacts of sustainable development on the companies' logistics system.


This module focuses on the different links of the logistic chain and on the connection between them, so as to develop an efficient and agile organization. Logistic performance and the means to support it therefore constitute the guiding thread of this course. We will alternate between operational techniques and strategic reflection. The management tools that will be studied are: operations management, inventory management, distribution, information systems. Moreover, some major issues linked to sustainable development will be discussed.

PREPARATION FOR LINGUISTIC CERTIFICATION : THE WIDAF (GERMAN) (BL1LV015)

This course is a preparation to the Widaf, one of the third party certifications offered by the school. The achievement of a certification is one of the preconditions for the students to be awarded their ESC Bretagne Brest diploma.

The Widaf is offered by the Franco German Chamber of Commerce.
Preparation takes place within ESC.


PREPARATION FOR LINGUISTIC CERTIFICATION : BUSINESS SPANISH CERTIFICATE (BL1LV009)

- Obtaining a mastery of the fundamentals of Spanish business vocabulary
- Being operational in a multicultural world

In this module students who have an intermediate to advanced level of Spanish will have the opportunity to acquire an in depth knowledge of the Spanish economic, trade and corporate world.
This module is especially recommended to all students who wish to add to their linguistic training the possibility to enter a Hispanic company or a company with link to the Spanish speaking world.
The certification is offered during 2 sessions :
Candidates have a three hour time frame to answer the five following exercises :
- Summarize a Spanish press article into French (20 points)
- Translate a business letter into Spanish (20 points)
- Answer to a business letter (20 points)
- Translate into Spanish a series of 10 sentences dealing with business or economic issues (20 points)
- Answer in Spanish to a series of questions dealing with business, the economy, etc. (20 points)

Every grade under a quarter of the points awarded to each exercise is considered eliminatory.


PREPARATION FOR LINGUISTIC CERTIFICATION : SPANISH ELYTE (BL1LV008)

The aim of this course is to become acquainted with the economic and business terminology of the countries studied, to consolidate basic notions of business Spanish in order to offer the students the possibility to work in an Hispanic context

At the end of the course, students should be able to:
- write properly simple, long or complex tests (recommendations, messages, memorandums, professional letters or emails, etc.), and speak in front of an audience (to participate in a meeting)
- to express themselves with great ease and to write in a fluent style
- to consolidate and increase basic notions
- to use precise terms and idiomatic expressions
- communicate orally in simple professional situations as well as more complex ones (for example presentation of a product, service, company)
- understand, without difficulty, practical information and main ideas from a text, both through listening and reading.

With this course, students with an intermediate to advanced level of Spanish will have the opportunity to learn the business and economic context of Spanish-speaking countries from a socio-cultural, practical and communication point of view.
Cultural keys will be given to understand the Hispanic economy in its context, the basic business terminology as well as most-commonly used expressions, constitute its three main lines.
This course is particularly intended for students who whish to add to their linguistic training the ability to work for companies linked with the Hispanic community.
Individual and collective projects will enable the students to use their skills with a focus on how to learn the terminology within its context, as well as oral expression in specific situations, not to mention cultural and practical characteristics useful to understand the realities and economic specificities of the Hispanic community throughout the world.

The planned activities will help the students get the appropriate training in order to prepare themselves for the ELYTE certificate.


MANAGEMENT CONTROL 1 (BMGCG002)

The objective is to allow students to master the essentials of management control. The main tools are introduced :

o Cost control
o Budgeting
o Reporting and "tableaux de bord"

Organizational control goes beyond check-control, it consists in knowing the conditions necessary to controlling an organization. Decision-making support, convergence of goals and motivation are at the heart of management control concerns. Cost control, the use of budgets and the connection between operational structure and strategy are all elements that should be mastered by students of management.


LABOUR LAW AND FISCAL LAW (BMGDR008)

- To present labor law and introduce students to the specificities of a labor contract.
- To present the administrative environment and the tax rules applicable to private individuals and companies.
- To situate taxation in its European environment.
- To establish a link between theory and practice

The module introduces two legal disciplines which are particularly technical and essential given companies' environment : labor law and tax law.
The part devoted to labor law focuses on the specificities of the labor contract and its terms of execution and breach. Furthermore, personnel representation within the company will also be studied.
The part devoted to tax law aims to present the main principles of the tax system and the most important taxes: income tax, value-added tax and corporate taxation will each be studied.


STRATEGIC MARKETING (BMGMA004)

The Strategic Marketing module completes the Operational Marketing one by approaching the strategic aspects which are a precondition to the defining of an appropriate offer. From their knowledge of consumer behavior and market tendencies students learn the definition and application of an adapted marketing strategy to insure the durability of a company's brand portfolio. The students will implement their knowledge in a "brand project" which will end with the wording of recommendations (know how).


FINANCE (BMGFI004)

The professional objectives are defined according to classic company structure. The module, therefore, aims to train the student to be a financial officer's or treasurer's assistant, a stock-control manager, a customer service manager or a supplier service manager. These professional objectives require technical qualities and the ability to make immediate decisions. So as to achieve these goals, the module introduces domestic investment, the foreign exchange market, and international financial management. The issues raised by domestic investment lead us to introduce students to the analysis of useful variables and the importance of making a rational investment choice. For international investment or funding, companies will have to gain a solid knowledge of the foreign exchange market and of international financial management. Indeed, companies will have the

Today, companies do not only make deals at the national level, but also beyond their own borders. Of course, the creation of the European currency area reduces financial risks, but companies are seeking to develop their activities outside the European area. The growing number of mergers and acquisitions or takeovers bears witness to this change. Business managers, therefore, will have to be able to move from domestic to foreign investments. Foreign investments are thus becoming unavoidable and, indirectly, business managers must acquire a good knowledge of international finance.


STRATEGY MANAGEMENT : THE PROCESS (BMGST017)

MANAGEMENT OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS (BMGSI020)

This modules introduces the strategic perspectives of Information systems. Students will learn to position IS as a solution to management problems.
Furthermore they will approach the complexity of information and knowledge within a company, that this complexity be linked to the management in itself or to technological, security or regulation limitations.

The management stakes linked to ICT are many and cover multiple areas. The aim of this second year module is to offer the student an overall perspective of these areas.
In this class we will go over enterprise resource planning, IS project management, IS governance and IS security.


SECOND FOREIGN LANGUAGE APPLIED TO MARKETING AND HUMAN RESOURCES (BMGLV001)

- To foster the learner's autonomy through the use of technology ;

Learning language success is mainly based on three crucial factors: the attitude of the learner (autonomy), the time spent with the language (immersion) and the ability to notice what is happening in the language (noticing). It involves classroom-based courses (business-related contents), mobile learning (handheld device use) and e-learning (online resources). This module focuses on Human Resources, Marketing and Advertising.

The revelation about sustainable development is nowadays a reality for firms. The establishment of sustainable development policy can allow a competitive advantage to the firm. As such, tools and methods can implement this process within the firm. This lecture aims to analyze the managerial aspects of ethics, corporate social responsibility and sustainable development. This lecture aims to understand how responsible management can represent a strategic lever for business competitiveness through concrete examples, specific case studies and theoretical contributions.


HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT (BMGRH011)

- Understanding the role of HR in the firm.
- Understanding the theoretical and technical framework of HRM.
- Developing autonomy and original thinking on HRM.

Here, students can acquire theoretical and practical knowledge useful for anyone who intends to work in the domains of Management or Human Resource Management (HRM).

LINGUISTIC REFRESHER COURSE (BL3LV013)

The aim of this course is to help the students who :
- Have validated their LV2 (second language)
- Have stayed in a Spanish speaking country during their semester or year abroad
To maintain their level of oral communication as well as to help them grasp the topical issues. This should help them better their linguistic skills before they start working.


INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS (BMGAI015)

- To present and discuss the concept of international business, its history, definition, and motifs to engage in international business
- To enumerate and analyze the differences between national and international
- To learn how to conduct a firm's performance analysis and the international market analysis
- To conceive and to monitor an international business strategy
- This course has the pedagogic objective of inciting students to present and discuss their ideas and objectives in a structured and selctive way
